The international scientific conference “Identity, Tradition and Cultural Interferences. Symbolism of The Romanian Blouse Ia” aims to explore the meanings and symbolism of the Romanian blouse „Ia” in broader cultural and traditional context. The event will focus on the deep understanding of the „Ia” tradition, the external cultural influences and the impact of this garment on the Romanian and global identity. By bringing together universities and researchers from Romania, Ukraine, Serbia, Moldova and other countries, the conference aims to:

• Promote the value and symbolism of the Romanian “Ia” as an essential element of cultural heritage.

• Investigating the meaning of ia in different cultures and in various historical contexts.

• Sharing knowledge about how traditions and cultural symbols can contribute to building a national identity.

• Creating an international dialogue about cultural influences and interactions between different traditions.

 

Objectives of the conference:

1. To bring together experts, researchers and professionals from fields such as anthropology, cultural history, traditional fashion and education.

2. To promote the global understanding of the symbolism of the Romanian ia and its role in strengthening the national cultural identity.

3. To facilitate the exchange of ideas and good practices between participants from different corners of the world.

4. To present recent research and case studies on “Ia”, as a symbol of tradition, but also of modern influences.

The conference will be in English and Romanian, and the sessions will be streamed online on platforms such as Zoom, YouTube and Facebook to facilitate global access and participation by a wide audience.

Abstract Submission Instructions

You are invited to send your abstract to the International Conference Identity, Tradition and Cultural Interferences. Symbolism of the Romanian blouse „Ia“ which will be held on June 20-21, 2025. The conference is in a hybrid format (both online and in-person).

All abstracts should be sent in English.

Conference Abstract Book

All accepted and registered abstracts for the ITCI will be published in the Conference Abstract Book with an associated ISBN Number.

The Abstract Book will be available on the conference day.

The participants should send their abstracts in .docx file format.
The abstracts submitted to the conference undergo a blind review process by two anonymous reviewers from the conference’s scientific review board. The conference secretary will send you a message with the decision to accept or reject.

The conference abstract book will be published with an assigned ISBN.

Paper publication:

The full papers, following the peer review process, will be published in the volume „Identity, Traditions and Cultural Interferences”, issued by Cetatea de Scaun Publishing House, accredited by CNCS (category B) in the fields of History and Cultural Studies.

2. Submission Guidelines:

  • Papers must be between 8 and 25 pages, including the title, abstract, and images.
  • The text must be formatted in Times New Roman, size 12, justified alignment, with 1.5 line spacing. The bibliography should be placed at the end.
  • The abstract in English should be 100-150 words long and include 5-7 keywords in English.
  • Articles can be written in Romanian, English, French, German, or Italian, with the title, abstract, and keywords translated into English.
  • The citation and reference system of the articles is that of the Romanian Academy
